COVID-19: What we’ve seen
Coronavirus (usually known as COVID-19 or COVID) has resulted in many families isolating themselves inside their homes and we’re here to help.
Throughout the world and more so in Australia, dining establishments such as restaurants and bars have had to resort to providing takeaway food and drink. This means families are having to eat and prepare more meals at home or opt for delivery. Many parents have also chosen to keep their children home from school.
With this in mind, you might be asking yourself just how to reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19 through enhanced kitchen hygiene.
Kitchen Hygiene tips during COVID-19
Listed below are key points on just how you can maintain a clean kitchen area and minimise the likelihood of ingesting virus germs.
Wash your hands
Experts agree that germs can be easily transferred from our hands to our food. Sanitising your hands by washing them for a minimum of 20 seconds prior to any kind of cooking or food preparation is absolutely crucial.
Wash your fruit and vegetables
We recommend you choose machine packed fruit and vegetables. You don’t know if a COVID-19 infected person did their grocery shopping, and handled a loose fruit or vegetable without buying it. No matter what you choose, we recommend you wash your fruit and vegetables before you use them.
By sanitising your fruit and veg, this can help get rid of dangerous germs and microorganisms that otherwise may have been on the surface of the food.
Tidy up your kitchen
After food preparation, tidying up your kitchen is 100% essential. If you’ve just prepared dinner, leaving the dishes until the morning can result in germs multiplying. Furthermore, we love seeing our Jewelbic built kitchens looking spick and span!
A typical kitchen cutting board may have 200 percent extra germs living on it compared to the average toilet seat.
Damp sponges and scrubbing brushes are similar; make sure these are washed and wrung out or dried before being placed away in storage.
Cleaning your kitchen, wet areas, machines and utensils using appropriate hygiene items can minimise the threat of contamination from COVID-19 germs.
It’s also a good idea to regularly clean taps, cupboard handles and light switches.
If you’re worried that your old kitchen might be harbouring harmful germs, we can perform a basic makeover by installing new tap ware. Or we can completely renovate your kitchen to ensure new tapware, fixtures, cabinets and benchtops are easier to clean.
